Planning your family portrait

Make the most of your family portrait experience,  just by putting a little planning into your portrait beforehand will help us to create priceless photo memories that you and your family can treasure forever.

Start at the end!

Sounds counter intuitive but having clear goals in mind before your family or baby photo shoot will improve the results tremendously as your photographer will be able to tailor the shots exactly to your taste.  For instance, do you prefer funky colour or classic black and white photographs. What shades of colour or black and white photography look good against your decor. What would look great in your home, a contemporary canvas/block or one of our stylish photo frames. Have a look at books/magazines and online for inspiration. Remember we are here to guide you all along the way.

Plan ahead for the day

Now you have some great ideas of how your wall portraits will look it’s time to have fun planning your family photo shoot.  List who will be coming; make some short notes about them, what is their particular style (trend setting shoes, hats, sunglasses, skateboards, wacky ties etc.), what are their interests. (sport, gardening, cooking, retail therapy, musical instruments, fashion?)  What are the things that characterize you and bring you together (e.g. sport, music, favourite holiday location). Think about the clothes and props you will bring – need some ideas on your clothing? just follow this link –  what to wear at your photo shoot

At your family photo shoot

Please allow plenty of time for your arrival and parking, it makes for a lot less stress. If you can plan your portrait session around the children’s sleeping and eating times so they are full of life and at their best, particularly younger members of your family. Try not to tell them to ‘smile at the camera’ or ‘behave themselves’. We will capture their natural expressions on the day so that you will have a lasting record of the real thing. Most importantly – be prepared to HAVE A GREAT TIME!

We know how keen you will be to come back to view your images, so please bring your diary with you so we can organise your viewing appointment for as soon as possible after the shoot.
